Department of Statistics
The Department of Statistics was established in the year 1951, with (Late) Prof. K.Nagabhushanam as Head of the Department. It is a matter of great pride that the department was started y such an eminent personality who obtained his Doctorate in Statistics under the guidance of Prof. Harald Cramer, an eminent statistician of the World. The department, since inception, has been working in tune with the mission of the University to promote teaching, research and extension.
Name of the Course : M.Sc. Statistics (Pure and Applied)
Admission : Through AUCET
(Notification Date: Month of March; Examination date: last week of April)
Eligibility : B.A/B.Sc. Mathematics and Statistics (with one of them as main wherever applicable) and any other subject.
Local Area : In every course of study 85% of the available seats are reserved in favour of the Local Candidates from the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam belonging to Andhra University area and students from Kurnool Silver Jubilee College and Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswavidyalayam (Tirupathi)
Number of Seats :Total : 40 ( Regular:28 and Self Finance : 12 )
Entrance Exam Syllabus and Patteren : The 90 questions are spread over three parts, viz., A , B & C.
Part A: contains 40 questions(40 marks: Applied Statistics)
Part B: contains 30 questions (30 marks : Statistical Methods and Inference) and
Part C: contains 20 questions (20 marks:Descriptive Statistics and Probability Distributions)
EVERY WRONG ANSWER ENTAILS A DEDUCTION OF 1/4 MARK.
Reservations : (SC:15%,ST:6%, BC: 29%(A:7,B:10, C:1, D: 7, E: 4, PH:3, Sports: 0.5, NCC:1, CAP:2, Women:33.3 in O.C. and in each of reservation categories.)
The Fee concession in respect of S.C. / S.T. / B.C. / EBC will be followed as per the G.O’s in vogue.

Placements : The students of this department have bright employment opportunities as statistical officers, consultant statisticians software development personal, Field officers in several government, private and public sector organizations in addition to teaching and research institutions. Recently some software and Marketing Research companies in India have conducted Campus Interviews and selected many of the students for their organizations.
